Imam Haneef Mahdi was born and raised in the beloved City of Chester, Pensylvania.  His parents were the late John Campbell from Montgomery, Alabama and Jacqueline Campbell of Chester, Pennsylvania.  As a young boy, he attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Chester, PA.

In 1975, at the age of 17, he began his journey as a devout Muslim following the disciplines of the religion of Islam.  He completed his first reading of the Holy Quar’an during the blessed month of Ramadan. At the age of 21 he made his spiritual and intellectual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia to perform Haj with a delegation of 300 Muslims from the United States of America.

Imam Mahdi has been the resident imam of the Islamic Center of Chester, Inc. Masjid Mustaqueem for 17 years.  He has served the Muslim community of Chester, PA and Philadelphia, PA in leadership roles for over 30 years.

Haneef Mahdi has enjoyeed careers in both retail management and the insurance industry for a combined 30 years.  Currently, he is employed by Continental Insurance Company and is licensed in Pennsylvania and Delaware.

He has been married to Denise Mahdi for 30 years and they have two adult children, Aaliyah and Haneef, and one teenager, Shareef.  They have two grandchildren, Jalil and Leila.
